The New Revlon Colorstay Concealer Review, Swatch, Demo

Concealers and foundations are some of the trickiest makeup products I’ve come across. You have to keep trying and trying till you get the right shade, texture and longevity that you desire, and if you don’t a large amount of money is lost. I‘ve used only 2 concealers so far and Revlon Colorstay is my second one. One thing that stops me from experimenting with concealers and foundations is that if you’re looking for something along the lines of medium coverage, they’re damn pricey, even drugstore brands sell them at an exorbitant price. Today I’m going to review a pricey “drugstore” concealer that is the Revlon Colorstay Concealer.

My take on Revlon Colorstay Concealer in Deep (06)

Packaging: Since it’s a liquid concealer, it comes in a glass tube with a doe foot applicator. The packaging is nice and fuss free but the problem with such bottles is that the doe foot applicator won’t be able to get the product which is really deep inside the bottle so a lot of the product will get wasted. Also using the doe foot directly is unhygienic.

Consistency: The Revlon Colorstay Concealer is a liquid concealer and I find that it has the right consistency. Its neither too thick or thin and blends effortlessly. I LOVE how easily it blends!

Coverage: Revlon US website says that this offers a full coverage while the description at Nykaa says that it’s a medium coverage concealer. I agree with the latter. I have really dark circles which require  a corrector and a concealer and when I use just this concealer it doesn’t cover them fully, you can see still see my dark circles but they’re not that prominent. It kind of just fades them. I’m sure my description is confusing just have a look at the pictures below.

In the ‘After’ pic, you can see that my under eye looks slightly greyish but that’s because I’ve applied just the concealer+powder and no base product. When I apply this over my current base product(Bourjois CC Cream) I find that there’s no greyish tinge. As you can see, my dark circles aren’t fully covered. Even when I layer the product, the coverage isn’t enough for my dark circles. However, I feel that for pimples and blemishes, this will provide full coverage. I haven’t used this for hiding blemishes and pimples because the shade is darker than my skin tone, but just to check the coverage I tried it on  a few blemishes and I was happy with the results.

I find that a little goes a long way with this concealer. One layer gives enough coverage, but I need to apply 2 layers to make it stay longer

The shade "Deep” : This shade is obviously meant for tanned and deeper skinned beauties unlike myself, but my dark circles are very dark and if I had gone for a shade similar to my skintone(“Medium”) my under eyes would have looked very ashy. This color is a perfect match my eye contour. Also, it has lot of orange undertones and that helps in cancelling out darkness. It won't suit very dark skinned beauties though, if you're 1-2 shades darker than a medium skin tone, it should suit you.

Weartime:
Based on my use in this cool monsoon season (on some days its really cold here, almost winter like), I can’t say how it will fare in the summers.
When I had applied just a single layer of this concealer, I found that after 4- 5 hours the concealed effect has faded off and slight creases are also there in my eye contour area. However, when I apply 2 layers, I found that the concealer stays for a good 6 hours before there’s fading and visible creasing. I always set it with a powder. It has never made my eye contour oily, nor has it transferred to my fingers whenever I touched that area. I don’t have dry under eyes but if you do, it might crease more on you. Whenever I use an eye gel beforehand, I find that this stays for a shorter duration.

Removal: At the end of the day, I can remove this just with my cleanser, I don’t need to use a makeup remover.

Overall Verdict: 4/5
The Revlon Colorstay Concealer is a good liquid concealer that’s easy to use and blends effortlessly. For the price it retails at, I do wish it stayed longer on me and also it should be made available in more shades. It provides a good medium coverage to heavy under eye circles and full coverage to blemishes. So if it suits your needs, go ahead and purchase it, you won't be disappointed! I might repurchase it, but I would definitely like to try more long staying and full coverage liquid concealers as well.
